Amann Girrbach
AG.Live, the system where dental labs and dental practices work together. From the scan to the finished restoration.

Digitalisation for an entire industry.
Amann Girrbach is one of the leading full-service providers in digital dental prosthetics, with around 500 employees and partners in more than 90 countries. With AG.Live, the company launched the biggest digitalisation push in its history.
My role from 2022 to 2023: discovery and UX/UI design on the existing system, together with development and the Amann Girrbach product team.
Two user groups, one workflow.
The portal was built for dental technicians first; dental practices joined in a second phase. Two groups with very different routines who have to work on the same case.
The questions behind it: what changes for existing users? Which data has to come along? And how do releases stay predictable while new things grow in the test system?
Complex processes, compact dialogs.
What made it exciting: a huge portal that kept evolving while in use. The updates came out of close collaboration with innovation management, the engineers behind the dental milling machines, and the dental practices and labs themselves. Their feedback went straight into the next steps.
Especially intense: the flow for creating a restoration. Pick the tooth in the dental chart, set material, indication, veneering and shade in one compact dialog, done.
Every case in one place.
Case management is the heart of the portal: jobs you produce yourself, send to partners or make for partners. Scan, design and X-ray data are attached right to the case, and dentist and lab talk inside the job instead of by email.

From the portal to the machine.
Alongside the software, I designed the touchscreen interface of the Ceramill Motion 3, a five-axis hybrid milling machine for wet and dry processing.
This was about human-machine interaction: operating right at the machine, in the middle of a busy lab. Portal and machine belong to the same digital workflow, from scan to design to manufacturing the restoration.

One system instead of two portals.
The same pages and components also became the admin portal Amann Girrbach uses to support its customers. A Storybook gave design and development a shared language for the building blocks.
